“To call it a mere strip club means you don’t get it. It’s more like hip-hop’s ultimate proving ground—a legendary hive of hustlers and dreamers. Magic City is a place where fortunes rain from the rafters, where women with impossible bodies call the shots, and where a DJ who spins your track can make you a star.” (Devin Freidman)

My digital built environment description website was on Magic City, one of Atlanta’s premier strip clubs. I started on the homepage of the website, which contains an interactive moving background of Magic City strippers dancing, it contains all the lights, colors, and people in the club which makes me feel as if I am in the club itself. It brings up a sense of excitement and euphoria to me, pulling me from a computer screen into the world of Magic City. The club’s reputation is so big, that a rapper by the name of Future made a song called “Magic” talking about the club and the video was shot inside Magic City.

On the homepage between the words “Magic” and “City” there is a white silhouette of what appears to be a woman, accentuating on the chest and buttocks curves area. This possibly assumes that the girls there have amazing bodies, which could persuade someone to go to the club. The whole background shows numerous clips of the club, all with fast chop transitions which also is another possible method of inciting euphoria and excitement. There is a lack of anything but strippers in the series of clips, possibly suggesting that other than the strippers nothing else is important. In the middle is a quote from GQ magazine (a premier men’s fashion and style magazine) calling Magic City “America’s most important club” and a big blue icon with the words “Free Admission” on it, another two possible methods to attract their target audience.

There are tabs at the top in white letters to access their shop, get a reservation,  pictures, videos, get a job, and FAQs. The first four of these tabs aforementioned are then presented on the bottom of the website along with slightly moving pictures (if you slide your pointer across) and their hours of operation. This homepage is proves to be great in its design and font choice (appears to make the words sexy) while listing everything available.

I then started to view the other tabs, I immediately noticed the lack of the interactive pictures and funs things found on the homepage was replaced with a white background page with whatever content listed on the page. On each page while hovering over tabs the font color changes to blue except for when you are on the shop page and most tabs don’t offer access to every other tab except when you’re on the homepage. Again on each page there are only females also there are links to every media outlet including a Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The FAQs page is very straightforward, providing answers to questions.

The shop page provides access to the clothes that they sell but does not provide a way to the homepage aside from clicking backspace on your computer or going to another tab that can take you to home. Also on the shop tab from the homepage on the bottom, there is a picture of Future the rapper. The videos page is very simple, containing few videos but provides access to the magic city newsletter on the right. Across every page there is a search icon where one can type in a keyword and hits will pop up. The menu page also showed the many colorful menus that depicted drinks and food.

Lastly, I viewed the pictures page which contains many (explicit) pictures of inside the club. There one can find a variety of ATL culture and built environment in hi quality. I especially noticed 1 thing on the is page that was different from the others, it did not just contain the strippers but other people having fun and even some celebrities , the target audience for the club.

All in all, this website was great as far as its digital design/style, while also bringing Magic City and the ATL to me through a computer screen.

Digital Recording 1: Magic by Future in the Magic Videos Section

This video was shot in Magic City talking about Magic City. One can instantly notice many scenes of them beside the sign. Then there are scenes inside the club, along with all the lights and the strippers. Also there is a girl twirling fire in the background. Being a video I cannot touch or interact with it but the music gives me that exciting club feeling. There are many colors including dark blue, green, purple, black, and pink. It advertises Magic City and intends to target anyone willing to spend money there.

Digital Recording 2: Inside the Atlanta Strip Club that Runs Hip hop in the Magic Videos Section

This video is a(n) (explicit) documentary of Magic City that best explains Magic City and how it interacts with Atlanta culture. It interviews everyone, from the people who wash cars outside to the strippers to the celebrities that go there. It explains not only Magic City but ATL music and the hustle mentality. This is a great video that not only advertises Magic City but it basically insight on America.

Digital Recording 3:

Magic City Hoodie
Magic City Hoodie

This is a magic city hoodie. It has the name of Magic City on the front and sides which advertises itself. The colors are black and white and the letters are big. It comes in all sizes and appears very easy to navigate.

Digital Recording 4: The Magic City Experience Video in the Magic City Videos Section

This artifact is interesting as it does not have any interviews and is a silent video except for the song Plastic Bag by Drake and Future playing throughout the video. There are many bright colors and the video contains clips from the homepage inside it. It mostly depicts strippers dancing on the pole and advertises the feature stripper “The SnackPack”. Although being a short video it is great quickly advertising and explaining Magic City as a place.

Digital Recording 5:

Money in a bag.
Money in a bag.

This shows the average money that a stripper can make a day. They use trash bags, grocery bags, and anything they have to collect money that day. In the background one will notice a person with stacks of money and it appears this bag is on a stage. This is good because it attracts potential strippers and people looking to work in the club. It also advertises magic City as a place where money is everywhere thus attracting people wishing to feel like they’re part of it.
