Community-Based Projects: Digital Writing & Publishing

In Fall 2013, I set up partnerships with 5 local, non-profit organizations. Students in English 3120: Digital Writing & Publishing worked in groups of 4 – 5 to collaboratively create digital writing projects.

Safe Place Group

This group created a video to help teens understand the Safe Place program. This is a national program, but we partnered with a local affiliate, Advocates for Children.

Cafe 458

This group created a training video for volunteers who need to quickly learn procedures for taking orders and waiting tables at Cafe 458, a non-profit organization that donates all proceeds to the Atlanta Center for Self-Sufficiency.

This group worked on redesigning an existing website and developing a new draft website.

Pebble Tossers Group

This group created a template, style guide, and a series of documents (How To Sheets, FAQs, and Cause Areas) for the non-profit Pebble Tossers. I’ve linked just one of the “How To” Sheets here as a sample.
